Terry Shaunessy

Terry Shaunessy

President and Portfolio Manager

For Terry, Shaunessy Investment Counsel (SIC) is the culmination of a lifetime of experience. After more than 20 years of investing on behalf of institutions and other large clients, Terry created this private company to provide highly specialized and top-tier service tailored to the needs of a select group of clients.

Terry has held executive senior positions with HSBC Asset Management and Gordon Capital. With Gryphon Investment Counsel, he was a managing partner and portfolio manager, and at Merrill Lynch, he was the director of research and a top-ranked bank analyst.

“The business is about matching strategy to a client’s level of risk and having the discipline not to waiver when everyone is either jumping on the latest bandwagon or out of the market in a panic.”

Shaunessy Investment Counsel (SIC) has been providing investment management services to First Nations in the Yukon since 2008. These mandates are an integral and key part of our business.

These First Nations trusts hold funds received as a result of compensation or other agreements, and are invested for the long-term benefit of their citizens. They have investment mandates that fit SIC’s management style and strategy.

Secure Assets

As with all our clients, First Nations portfolios are held by custodians (a bank) in seperate accounts. Assets are never held by SIC, which ensures a very high level of security and transparency.

Tailored, Face-to-Face Services

SIC provides First Nations trusts with prudent investment management that meets the specific needs of committees, the leadership of the First Nation and of citizens who may reside in remote communities.

Timely and comprehensive reporting and in-person meetings are of significant importance to First Nations, and for us as well — this is how we establish good working relationships and provide our clients with a high level of confidence in our service.

We are not stock pickers — SIC allocates by asset class. Our investment methodology and approach is highly transparent and understandable to investment committees.

The SIC team is also personally engaged with First Nations communities by supporting educational and cultural activities.

SIC is pleased to provide written proposals and references upon request.
